Sheffield Analytical Services is a division of the Assay Office in Sheffield, where precious metals have been analysed for well over 200 years. The hallmarking of Silver, Gold and Platinum alloys provides the public with guarantee of quality, and this regime of protection and guarantee has been extended into other areas of analysis by the Analytical Services division - one of the first laboratories and the first Assay Office to be given UKAS accreditation.

Fully equipped with laboratories and furnace facilities for metals analysis, this facility is involved in the smelting and assay of bullion samples, medical research, plating thickness measurement, mineral analysis and land contamination investigations.

This laboratory is also a leading authority in the testing of jewellery and fashion accessories to comply with the current EC Nickel Directive. The UK Mercury Screening Service for Dentists and associated personnel, and for those who work with Mercury in industrial environment operates from here.
